Squerryes Vineyard has become a member of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, a new and rapidly expanding network of vineyards across the country. Since 2006 our physiology has been a minimal intervention approach to viticulture using as few herbicides, fungicides and fertlisers as possible.
Becoming officially involved in SWGB is an important next step-in our sustainability journey. We will work with the Great British Industry to reduce carbon usage in operations and increase ecological diversity in pockets around and within the vineyard.
Richard Dyson our trainee vineyard manager is responsible for the day to day management of the vineyard. He said the first step is to log sand monitor our existing practices for the vineyard year between January and October 2022. This will form the dataset that enables us to work with others in the industry to make changes which will make future vintages of Squerryes Wine all the more sustainable in the years ahead’.
